Sharing the Good News in New Ways

We've all been there. You want to share the good news of God's kingdom, but the standard approach won't work. In most cases, the standard gospel approach won't work because most people don't understand 'church speak' - words like sin, justification, etc. This post will help you think outside the box and approach each person as unique and precious to God.

If you have the opportunity, tell the good news as a story. You are wired to respond to stories, your brain stores information in story form, and God uses stories to teach us in His word.

As everything God does stems from John 3:16, this should always be your launchpad for sharing. God loved so He gave. In those five words rests the nature of God and the purpose of the Good News. He not only gave, but He gave His very best and most precious Son. Examining it more closely, we find God is love; it's not what He feels, it's who He is. 1John 4:16 tells us: "And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him." Now, use the bible, and show how God's love manifests to bless us. If you want to dive deeper into a full understanding of God's love, read 'The Fruit of the Spirit: the way to whole and happy living.'

Everyone wants to be loved; we are wired to love and be loved. Allowing that to be your focus or starting point will give you a receptive audience. I say this from experience. We used it in prison ministry and re-entry houses for ex-offenders, in churches and when speaking to successful people. No matter who you speak to, the universal language of love will always find a listening ear and a receptive heart.

Most people are not aware that they are separated from God, their Source and life. They have lived their lives the only way they know how, using the obvious tools to make life better. God's creation of humans was to fellowship with them and watch them release the unlimited potential placed in them. God created and allowed Adam to use God's image in him to perfectly name each creature according to its nature, "And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name." Genesis 2:19. Adam was so aligned to God's thinking that he understood the nature of the creatures God created. Our ancestors could've lived in this unlimited potential, ever-growing to the delight of God. They used their free will to choose another way. Both were there, both chose to eat. Genesis 3:6.

Through one disobedient meal in the Garden, our ancestors lost their ability to think like God, and they experienced something new: fear and shame. Genesis 3:7-11. They use the very trees given to bless them to hide and cover them when God comes to walk with them in their Garden. They are different, and it shows in how they interact with God. God allows them to come clean, own what they've done. Instead, Adam blames Eve, even though he was with her and chose to eat. Genesis 3:12. Eve blames the serpent. Their deep fellowship with God is broken because their thinking and acting have now taken on the nature of the deceiver. Satan achieved his goal: to lock humanity in brokenness through wrong thinking and wrongdoing and hold them in darkness.

But God, in His love, has a plan. God will part eternity and allow Jesus to step into the world as a man in a body He prepared specially for Jesus, Hebrews 10:5. Jesus stepped into time in a human body to live and show us how to live by fully identifying with us in all ways as a human being. Yet He remained utterly different because He never did anything wrong. Jesus’ mission was to be the life-giving spirit, the second Adam, who would ensure that creation is returned to what God declared when He made it. It was, once again, to be “very good." So Jesus put aside His God-attributes and lived as a man, so He could express His love fully as the perfect man. He also fully expressed His love for the Father by restoring God’s beloved human creation to ‘very good’. He is the contact point between God and us.

By surrendering your heart, the very centre of your being to God, and giving Him full ownership of you, the way is open for you to step into the kingdom of light and learn to live in the light. The wrong thinking and wrongdoing that became our default setting are changed as we enter the kingdom, but we still live in a body that runs after old thinking and doing patterns. God wants you to be involved in releasing the blessings of the kingdom in your life. In order for you to access all the good stuff, you have to change and grow in your thinking and doing.

We have a blueprint of how to live through Jesus. He experienced everything just as we do because He lived as a human, yet remained faithful and pure. He left a clear example of how we are to live here as kingdom representatives and joint heirs with Him, Romans 8:17, in preparation for living with God eternally.

Jesus lived in the empowerment of the Holy Spirit while on earth, and we have the same empowerment. Jesus trained His disciples in the knowledge of the kingdom, and they have seen the power of the kingdom through His ministry and their own ministry under His anointing. This power will flow from being in Jesus to being available to all. He set about to prepare His disciples for receiving the Spirit without measure – the Spirit unlimited. They are about to ‘take on’ the Spirit without measure and operate just as Jesus had shown them as light beings of the kingdom.

Jesus left behind a clear message to us that what He established on earth is now ours to enjoy in our kingdom life here on earth and in the life to come. Just before His physical departure from earth, He prepared His disciples to assume all the power and ability they had seen Him operating in John 20:21-22: “Then Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you!’ And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.’” These disciples already had a saving knowledge of Christ, although they didn’t fully understand. They had operated in signs and wonders under Jesus’ anointing, but now He prepares them to receive the Spirit fully. Before His departure, He instructed them to wait for the Spirit without measure that He had operated in. Luke 24:49. On the day of Pentecost, the Spirit without measure is poured out. Acts 1:5&8.

Plugging into the flow of light. As light beings in training to walk in the fullness of light, we need some help to learn how to handle all this light. Let’s look at an example. If you’re given the fictitious superpower of heat vision, you would have to explore the range of the gift in controlled surroundings to understand the scope of what you can do. You’d also have to learn to control yourself so that you use your superpower in thoughtful, productive and constructive ways. You don’t want to unleash your heat vision on some unsuspecting bystander! The Holy Spirit was given specifically by God to empower every believer to live a light-filled life of kingdom destiny. The Gifts of the Spirit found in 1 Corinthians 12 empower us in our daily kingdom living. These Gifts work Spirit to spirit. The Holy Spirit works through our renewed spirits to channel the light and power of God and eternal heaven through us as a declaration of the love and presence of God. It is important to note that the Spirit without measure gives us a continuous renewal and refilling to overflowing whenever we make ourselves available to Him. One of the greatest ways of drawing this overflowing into your life is through prayer. It’s quite extraordinary just how profoundly the Spirit uses praying in our known language or in our heavenly tongue that’s empowered by the Holy Spirit. To learn more about prayer and how to use the 19 different types of prayer, read our book, ‘Prayer Power: tapping into heaven for your Miracles and Transformation’.

All the power of the Holy Spirit is available to you to live a life of abundance, peace, health and growth. The Holy Spirit covers us, empowers and transforms us through the official vestment He gives, identifying us as divine representatives. That official garment of light can be seen in the spirit realm as it’s the outward evidence of the inward work of the Spirit. With the disciples, as with us, the purpose of this “enduing” is for us to assume the full empowerment as light beings. It wraps around you and soaks into you to protect, enhance, empower and increase the intensity of your light. With this cloak of the Spirit, we will demonstrate through our lives the light, power and possibility of the kingdom of God. If you'd like to know more about the Holy Spirit, read 'The Holy Spirit Book'

Most people don't know they are living in darkness because they've never experienced the light of God. We carry the spiritual genetics of our ancestors just as surely as we carry the genetics of our physical parents. God is light, and in Him there is no darkness, 1 John 1:5. To know God, you've got to step into the light. That means you have to willingly let go of the way you thought, acted and lived in the past and willingly accept that you need a cleansing from the past so you can become new. Living in the light gives you the ability to 'see' in a whole new way. You see things for what they are, and you can avoid the snares that kept you in habitual wrong thinking and wrongdoing patterns. Living in the light also shines on opportunities and blessings available through obedience to God. Do you want to know all the blessings of living in the light of God? Read 'Growing in God's Light'.

Every person you encounter wants to have direction, purpose, and meaning. They want answers to the big questions: Who am I?, What's my Purpose?, and What's life all about? These questions only find an answer in the kingdom of God. Dig deeper into the uniqueness of each human, how God has a unique plan for each person and how to use the gifts He's given in 'Gifts for Destiny and Life'

The fullness of your life and your reason for being unfold when you live your life in line with God's kingdom laws. “You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.” 1 Thessalonians 5:5 NIV. God takes you from the initial knowledge of the kingdom, deeper into your purpose and reason for living. And a whole new cycle of growth, learning and doing starts. You will continue growing in the light for the rest of your life. You will never know everything, and you should cultivate a growth mindset, expecting to keep learning, no matter how long you've been a kingdom believer. You want to think like God, which means you will need to pay attention to how you think and change any thinking that is not in line with God's. This is your responsibility. Why is this important? You live in a kingdom with unlimited potential, and your heavenly Father is the most powerful being in the universe. He made you specially and uniquely (Psalm 139:13-16) and loves you dearly. Zephaniah 3:17. For you to be all He placed in you, you've got to let go of the limiting ways of thinking and living you have been engaged in. This takes conscious effort by you, like any other area in your life you want to grow. Ephesians 4:22-24. Your old thinking will limit your true potential and confine you to box thinking. But you serve the creator of the universe. A God of limitless power who loves you and wants to spend time with you and watch you grow into your full potential - becoming a beacon of light to all and an example of the love and possibility of a life lived in the kingdom of God.
