“So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.” Colossians 2:10 NLT. You, me and all believers are “complete through our union with Christ”. It means nothing shall be wanting. “But hang on, there are things in my life that are ‘wantings’ that aren’t met. They’re important to me but seem difficult to reach or unobtainable. So, why is that?” Good question. How do we understand wholeness and 'wanting' in our lives? Well, your wholeness is already achieved and eternal; your ‘wantings’ are temporary. Let’s look into this.

You’re made whole through Christ. The Father, through Jesus, reconciled all things to Himself through the blood of His cross. Colossians 1:19. You’re ‘at one’ again with God. You’re restored to wholeness and completeness in everything. He ‘set at one again’ so we could enjoy this kingdom state of being here on earth and living in wholeness. Reconciliation also has the power to keep us God-centred and calm in the midst of difficult situations. And it hedges our minds and hearts to keep them from reverting to the patterns of wrong thinking and feeling. Thus, we can respond to all things with the mind of Christ. Your wholeness is your foundation.

Have you ever opened a gift and found you needed batteries to operate it, and those were not included? All God’s gifts have the ‘batteries’ included. All our blessings are 'fully functional', but we must understand and know how to use what we have.

As you live your life, you’ll have things you want. When your ‘wantings’ are unmet, you can lose sight of your wholeness. ‘Wantings’ are normal and healthy. God said He’ll give you the desires of your heart if you delight in Him. Psalm 37:4. So, here’s the key: pray, in expectation, knowing that the ‘wantings’ you ask for, in God’s will, are already yours! Jesus told this to us. “… I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” Mark 11:24. Powerful, isn’t it?

Remember, when you pray, you’re speaking to God. He views what your heart is bringing forth for your life. “Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues (flow) of life.” Proverbs 4:23. Thoughts and words show your intention and your beliefs. And these two, intention and belief, will keep you going in the way you pray and seeing through to the result.

Both the words of God and the words you speak are working in the unseen dimension of the spirit, bringing into existence the will and intentions of those words. Your spoken words, filled with your will and intention, do this just like those words God speaks. “By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.” Hebrews 11:3. With an expectant heart,  we are creating a conduit for God’s intentions for us to be creative through our prayer.

Prayer is pure energy, and energy cannot be used up. Prayer uses the very energy of eternal heaven, so it’s fuelled by God’s promises and His eternal power. Prayer cannot be used up or stop working.

There’s more! In your wholeness, the intention of your heart becomes a creative force. The words you speak work in the unseen dimension of the spirit, bringing into existence the intentions of those words. Intention and belief play a role in your use of the creative force God placed in you. Praying for your 'wantings' requires you to believe that you are speaking with a loving Father who wants to bless you and give you good gifts. He knows about every desire of your heart, and He wants you to thrive and prosper. You must also believe that because you are His child, having your 'wantings' met is not about deserving it, but about you being a joint heir with Jesus to the kingdom.

To make the intention of your heart a creative force, there should be no hindrances to your intention 'environment'. Keep a pure heart. Don't harbour unforgiveness, guilt, anger, jealousy or sorrow in your heart. We all experience these emotions as part of living, but if one of these emotions has become a constant in your heart, it is time to stop and deal with it. All these emotions block your intention when you create through prayer. Make an honest assessment of your heart. What is flowing in and through your heart? Write down why this emotion is so dominant in your thinking and in your heart. Now ask yourself: By allowing this, how are my life and relationships being affected? How is it limiting my belief and intent, preventing me from being able to create in prayer?

Your wholeness allows you to pray with intent for those 'wantings' in your life.  If you start from the point of your wholeness and completeness in Christ, you will weigh up these 'wantings' against who you are, not what you want. See how this changes your perspective on your 'wantings'?

Take a moment and examine if your unmet ‘wantings’ line up with whole kingdom living. Spend time with God and bring those 'wantings' before Him. Our desires can be very strong and loud. So, during your time in presenting your 'wantings' to God, be still. Listen. Let God guide you and teach you which of those 'wantings' are right for you and how to achieve them. Then use the power of intention to create through your words, prayers and actions.

'Thank you, my God, that I’m complete in Christ. And so, I know my ‘wantings’ will be provided for in prayer, expectation and through my intention.'
